Meet Corey Stork, LMSW
Are you struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship issues, or issues regarding identity? I would love to help you feel better through a therapeutic style that is collaborative and client-centered. My approach is rooted in empathy, inclusivity, and a deep respect for your own personal narrative and incorporates a view of life that integrates our past, present, and future experiences.
Therapeutic Focus:
LGBTQ+ Affirmative Therapy: I provide a safe and affirming space for individuals to explore their identities, navigate the challenges of coming out, and address issues related to discrimination and stigma. My goal is to empower clients to embrace their authentic selves.
Nerd Culture and Geek Identity: Understanding the unique experiences of geeks and nerds, I incorporate elements of pop culture, gaming, and fandom into our sessions. I believe these interests can be powerful tools for self-expression and connection. Sometimes, externalizing our challenges to the experiences of our favorite characters can help us better understand our own hero’s journey.
Trauma Recovery: If you find yourself struggling to let go of beliefs about yourself like “I’m not good enough,” “I’m unlovable,” or “I’ll never belong” then you might have experienced some form of trauma in your life. Trauma can take many forms, from a car accident or physical assault to more prolonged abuse and neglect in our childhood or adulthood. Whatever the source, you deserve a chance to recover and move past these negative, irrational beliefs. Utilizing approaches like EMDR and IFS, I help clients work toward more realistic beliefs about their life and self.
Non-Traditional Relationships: Whether you’re in a traditional relationship, an ENM (ethically non-monogamous) relationship, or exploring polyamory, I provide a non-judgmental space to discuss communication, intimacy, and relationship dynamics. I’m committed to helping partners build strong, supportive connections whether I’m seeing just one of you, or the whole relationship together.
I utilize a blend of evidence-based practices, including eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), internal family systems (IFS), emotionally focused therapy (EFT), the Gottman approach to relationships, and mindfulness techniques. I aim to create an environment where you feel safe to explore your thoughts and feelings, develop coping strategies, and work toward your goals.
I spent a decade working in higher education and have a great understanding of the particular challenges presented in young adulthood. I have also worked with homeless youth at The Montrose Center (LGBTQ+ Community Center) and have been a mental health case manager at The Menninger Clinic.
If you’re looking for a supportive and understanding therapist who respects your unique journey, I’m here for you. Together, we can navigate the challenges you face and celebrate the strengths that make you who you are.
When not counseling, I enjoy spending time with my husband, two goldendoodles and our cat. I’m also an avid volleyball player, anime/comic book nerd, and collector of hobbies.
I am an LMSW licensed in the state of Texas. I earned my Bachelor of Business Administration at The University of Toledo, Master of Science in Higher Education Administration at Northwestern University, and Master of Social Work at The University of Houston Graduate College of Social Work.
