Welcome to Autumn Counseling! I’m Brittany Burch, LCSW-S, CGP*, certified Emotionally Focused Therapist, EMDR therapist and owner of Autumn Counseling, Inc. I am so happy you have found your way here - I hope this website can be a good start to help you find what you’re looking for in therapy, and with one of our talented therapists.

I’ve been a therapist since 2006 when I graduated from Washington University in St Louis with a master’s degree in social work. I moved to Houston for a one year fellowship at the Menninger Clinic, and over a decade later Houston has become more than just my residence, it’s my home. After two years in in-patient work at the Menninger Clinic, I began what would become a decade of work at the Montrose Center. There I served an array of individuals, couples, and families addressing both everyday struggles and complex challenges. After 10 years of highly meaningful work with clients, supervising staff and overseeing their clinical internship training program, I realized I was ready to launch into my decades-long vision of owning a private practice. I am delighted to continue to practice as a clinical social worker and deepen my work utilizing evidence-based approaches including emotionally focused therapy (EFT) for couples and individuals, EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing) and psychodynamic psychotherapy. I am also a licensed chemical dependency counselor, and work with many clients in their struggles with addiction to alcohol, drugs, pornography and other patterns, habits and challenges.

My passion for becoming a therapist began when I volunteered in my high school counseling center. I studied Sociology at the University of California, Davis and realized social work was the path for me. Understanding where we come from, in addition to how our mind functions, made a world of sense to me, but I didn’t want to jump straight into graduate school – I wanted life experiences that would help me understand the world and others from a broader and deeper perspective. By the time I moved to St. Louis to start graduate school (at 40 years old) I had been to West Africa with the Peace Corps, worked in Alaska processing salmon, spent five years as a massage therapist, worked in a marketing agency in Richmond, Virginia, ridden my bike from San Francisco to Los Angeles (600+ miles!) and climbed Mt. Fuji, among several other adventures and jobs. Finally, I was ready to settle in to the career I knew was my calling. Today I’m a happy, glass half full type of person and therapist who cannot imagine working in another profession. When I’m not working with my clients or building my practice, I enjoy cooking, baking, traveling, exercise, jigsaw puzzles and volunteering with the Houston Food Bank and the American Red Cross in their disaster response team. I am on the boards for the Houston Group Psychotherapy Society (HGPS) and the Houston Community for Emotionally Focused Therapy (HCEFT). I am blessed to be one of the few who knew my calling early and was able to manifest it with the help of many friends and family. Every day I am grateful for the work I get to do with my clients, and for being a part of their transition from fear, despair, desperation and hopelessness to one of meaning, resiliency and hope.  That’s a bit about me…I look forward to learning about you!
