If one of our clinical staff have the experience to help you we'll share our approach, orient you to how we work with clients and answer any questions you might have. If one of our Autumn Counseling staff are not the best fit, we’ll refer you to a colleague that has what you are looking for.

Relationship counseling…
As therapists, we feel honored to be invited into our couples’ most challenging and rewarding part of their lives. Through Brittany’s training in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) she explores the strengths and challenges each person is experiencing in the relationship, how each is contributing to the cycle of conflict, and what changes each person can make to improve the relationship dynamic. Whether it’s infidelity, threats of divorce, premarital concerns or the most common of complaints - communication issues - together we identify the main areas of conflict and set about creating the changes you seek to make. While I love the time spent with my clients in helping them make meaningful changes, my task is to help you learn the skills that make relationship more enjoyable, functional and satisfying. Ultimately I want to help you take those skills and utilize them outside the office so you can get back into your lives feeling stronger, clearer, more hopeful and with greater peace of mind and heart.

CONSIDERIng AN INTENSIVE?
Here’s what clients are saying:
Brittany's 2-day Intensive couples' program helped my wife and me to identify negative patterns of communication and interaction and uncover and eliminate the blocks to emotional and physical intimacy that have for years kept us from experiencing the type of marriage we once had and have been searching for for many years. Brittany's empathetic and non-judgmental approach was able to create a supportive and loving environment that helped us feel safe enough and trust each other enough to do the work necessary to rediscover those lost connections. We came away from those two days feeling lighter, happier, better equipped and more hopeful about our future together.
Consider signing up for an intensive by filling out this form, and we’ll get back to you to set up a free 15 minute consultation zoom session.
Here are some scenarios of clients who benefit from a couples therapy intensive:
In crisis, but both partners want to try to make it work;
Stuck in a negative interactive pattern and can't seem to stop fighting;
Feel like roommates and don't know how to be close again;
Weekly counseling sessions don’t work due to demanding schedules;
Current clients who realize weekly sessions are not realistic;
Therapists seeking anonymity, so coming from out of town;
Couples wanting to get away & restore the relationship.
Intensive EFT sessions for relationships are an excellent jump start to addressing the challenges your relationship is struggling with. While one-hour weekly sessions show notable improvements in relationships overall, intensives offer an opportunity to dig deeper into understanding the patterns, or cycles, that interfere with your relationship harmony.
One-day intensives are 5 hours - 3 hours in the morning and 2 hours in the afternoon - devoted to identifying what each person is experiencing in the relationship, patterns that hijack your efforts to understand your partner (as well as for you to feel understood) and blocks that keep you from connecting with your partner in ways that feel meaningful. (Cost: $1300)
Two-day intensives follow a similar schedule, with the additional benefit of building on the momentum gained from the first day. In Day 2, we consolidate key lessons identified in Day 1 and move more deeply into really understanding your unique relationship cycle. (Cost: $2500)
Once you’ve jumpstarted your relationship, ongoing sessions are likely to be recommended in order to truly consolidate the initial shifts made in the intensive sessions, and to continue working toward the goals you want to achieve.
Click here a sample schedule.
What couples are best suited for intensives?
Couples ready to jumpstart the process of addressing relationship challenges;
Couples committed to working toward improving the relationship; in other words, all parties are “both feet in”;
Couples wanting to address relationship ruptures and who need a deeper dive to look at attachment injuries and how to begin the process of repair;
Premarital couples wanting to start off on the right foot as they prepare for their future lives together.
Consider signing up for an intensive by filling out this form, and we’ll get back to you to set up a free 15 minute consultation zoom session.
From an Intensive participant:
The structure of the process allowed us to make real progress without the interruptions of daily life. In two days we did what months of couples therapy couldn't do because of the continuity of the sessions. I was able to stay with the feelings, practice the communication skills and left feeling lighter, happier and more hopeful than I have been in a long time.
Intensive Disclaimer:
Intensives are not recommended for every couple. As you consider an intensive, keep these considerations in mind:
Couples in which one or both partners have an active addiction or an ongoing affair are not candidates for intensives;
Couples that engage in physical violence should not participate in couples therapy, but begin with individual therapy services. See here for resources;
If one partner wants to improve the relationship but the other partner is not committed to working on the relationship then intensives are not the venue to decide. Please consider discernment couples counseling with one of Autumn’s couples therapist;
If being in the same room for over an hour is too distressing (and triggers a potential trauma response) or you haven’t been able to be civil for a period of time, an intensive will not be productive. Consider starting with 50 minute deescalation sessions with one of our couples therapists;
When all members of the relationship are invested in working on improving the relationship, an intensive can be very rewarding.
If after reading these key points, you are unsure if you are a good fit for the intensive, please call Autumn Counseling at 832-930-2340 or email us at info@autumncounseling.com. We are happy to assist you in assessing if this is a good time for you to engage in this counseling format. If it's not, we’re also happy to help you find resources for other options.
More client recommendations:
“A wonderful experience Brittany was able to make this a positive and relaxing experience. We were both nervous due to the uncertainty of what to expect. But again Brittany allowed us to be open and helped us see our insecurities and acknowledge them.”
“Brittany really took the time to encourage me to sit with the feeling and really try to understand where those feelings were coming from and really name them. She had a way of listening and keeping me on track without being pushy or pressed for time.”
As with any psychotherapy, results are not guaranteed.

Trauma recovery…
Is your day-to-day life snagged by intrusive images of painful past experiences?
Are you tired of replaying memories that tell the same story and lead you straight into the same dead end?
Does it get so bad that you suffer panic attacks, anxiety, inability to concentrate and constant exhaustion?
Trauma - whether "big T" or "little t" - zaps us of our energy, focus, productivity, hope and joy.
EMDR has shown to be a very effective method for helping cope with everything from major traumas such as surviving Hurricane Harvey, childhood family disruptions and abuse to less severe but still disruptive challenges like job stress, relationship wounds and generalized anxiety.
Brittany, Christina & Gabriel all utilize EMDR, and Brittany was awarded certification in 2022. It is one of the approaches frequently used to address trauma, along with psychodynamic psychotherapy, cognitive behavioral therapy and psychodrama. We’ve experienced clients go from feeling plagued by memories they couldn't shake to being able to recall them but without the panic-ridden jolt that they once suffered.
Are you ready to have the past rest in the past?
If you want to feel more present in your day-to-day life instead of distracted by ruminating thoughts and worries, let us guide you in doing the work.
While facing past traumas can feel frightening, trauma recovery treatment decreases or eliminates painful triggers that pull you back into the past and allows you to feel more content and present in your life.
Clinical supervision…
I am certified with the Texas State Board of Social Work Examiners as a clinical supervisor for post-graduate social workers (LMSWs) working towards their clinical social work license (LCSW). I do both individual and group supervision and help new clinicians find their way through the challenges of clinical development. I have been supervising clinical interns in their graduate school studies in social work and counseling since 2011, and have supervised LMSWs seeking their terminal LCSW licensure. Group supervision includes didactic training, case consultation, role plays of challenging client dynamics and application of theory. I work collaboratively with new clinicians, share my knowledge and expertise and empower them to grow and cultivate their own unique professional identities. I am highly committed to cultivating excellent therapists, so I have high standards guided by the National Association of Social Workers Code of Ethics. I seek to support interns and post-graduate trainees in becoming the best therapists they can be. Our community deserves nothing less.
A review from a former intern:
Brittany is an incredibly skilled supervisor, full of compassion and understanding, but also knowledgeable and equipped to confidently guide you on your learning journey. Her rich experience allows her to know when to challenge you and when to simply sit with you in your difficult moments as an intern. I had the honor of being her supervisee for a couple years and until this day, some several years later, I still lean on the lessons that she taught me. I am very grateful that I was shaped as a clinician through my supervision with Brittany.
